Sei-ki: Feeling the Way – Movement & Touch
03/25/2022 - 03/27/2022€320
This workshop is a collaboration with the Taiji Schule, Jena. We will be exploring spontaneous movement, surrender and touch.
As such we hope it will be of interest to students of taiji, chi gong, martial arts and any other movement art who are interested in developing their skills into partnered and touch work.
This is an experimental, and experiential project, bringing these allied arts together in one, dynamic workshop.
This workshop will introduce Sei-ki as The Way of Touch through practice and discussion, focusing on kokoro/feeling and inviting the expression of original movement. It is suitable for experienced practitioners and complete beginners and is designed to offer taiji and other body embodied practitioners a bridge to connection and touch that is compatible with their experience and philosophy.
Sei-ki is both simple and profound. It is not technique-based, so anyone can come and learn; sometimes children have worked with us. We work to understand how life is for each person, without trying to fix them. This is powerful medicine. It is easy to overlook simplicity, but being truly present and recognizing the uniqueness of this moment with this person can take a lifetime to perfect. Yet even a complete beginner can offer the quietude and space we crave in their very first session.
Kishi Akinobu, the founder of Sei-ki, had a huge influence on Western Shiatsu; many point to him as one of the greatest masters of the art. In 1980, Kishi had a deep realization and stopped Shiatsu. What came out of a period of intense reflection and practice was Sei-ki.
Alice worked with Kishi for many years, co-authoring Sei-ki: Life in Resonance, the Secret Art of Shiatsu, which was published a year before Kishi’s death in 2012 and has ensured the longevity of his approach. More and more people are appreciating the value and power of non-doing and, in this workshop, we will practice the Way of Touch and safe hands for professional sessions and personal growth.
The workshop will be largely practical, introducing Sei-ki touch as well as surrender practice. Experiential learning will be supported with short talks and discussions.
On this workshop you will:
- Explore connections between Sei-ki and taiji in theory and practice
- Learn basic Sei-ki touch so that you can continue to practice and learn after the workshop
- Explore the interface between original movement and Sei-ki through surrender-katsugen
- Focus on kokoro/feeling as a guide for Sei-ki and for life
